Mrs. Flikkema
Mrs. Flikkema
First and Second grade teacher

This is my 31st year of teaching at DCS. I have taught preschool, third and fourth, and first and second grades here over the years. I also taught second grade and seventh and eighth grade for one year in Pease, MN while my husband was attending college.

I live in Delavan with my husband Brent. We have three children, Alesha, Joshua, and Kara. Alesha is a graduate of Judson University in Elgin, IL. She is married to Jeremy Wyman, and has two sons, Levi and Lucas and 2 daughters, Aralee and Addelae. Josh is a Graduate of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL. He is currently attending St. Cloud State for education. Josh is married to Taylor. Kara attended Judson University for one semester.  She is married to Thomas Solofra, and they have a baby boy named Rhett.

I enjoy spending time with my family, being a grandma!,camping, reading, and gardening. I feel very blessed to be able to teach in a Christian school. I love children and helping them discover the amazing world God has given to us.

Here's a look at our morning!

Our days begin with Bible reading and prayer.  On Monday mornings we meet together as a  school to sing songs of praise to our God.  Our theme this year is : Dig into The Word.

Each morning we will be doing many math, reading, and writing activities.  Math, Language, Reading, Phonics, Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, Phonics, Handwriting and Spelling are all a part of our morning time.  We all participate in activities to help us improve our abilities in these areas. In the spring we will all be participating in forensics.  Each child will present an individual or group piece for each other and our parents.  Later, some of us will present our pieces at a county meet in Walworth, WI.  We also put on a first and second grade play each spring.

Each week I will send a "homenote" on Mondays to keep parents informed of the things we are working on in class.

Now a peek at our afternoons!

Bible:  This year in Bible we will be looking at both the old and new testament stories.   Our memory verses will be sent home each week for extra practice in hiding God's Word in our hearts.

Social Studies and Science: We will learn about the world God has created for us to take care of.  As we look at ourselves and the beautiful world around us we will be amazed at His creativity!

Physical Education:  We have gym class twice a week. Students should dress appropriately for exercise (good shoes too) on these days.

Computer: Mrs. Wilson will be our computer teacher.

Library:  Each Friday we also visit our school library and the students have a chance to check out books for one or two weeks.
