I grew up in rural Wisconsin then moved to the northern suburbs of Chicago for grad school at Trinity International University / Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I currently live with my husband, Andy, a cat named Hesed, a dog named Divine, and a dog named Cuddles. In my free time I enjoy training dogs as a CPDT-KA certified trainer, gardening, and trying new recipes. It is such a joy to get to know the wonderful students, parents, and staff at Delavan Christian School.

Welcome to Delavan Christian School! I am in my 28th year of teaching. I did my undergraduate studies at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. My graduate work was at UW-Whitewater. I began my career as a special education teacher at Walworth Elementary School. After teaching for three years at Walworth, I began at DCS, teaching first and second grade. After two years of teaching in this position, the preschool position opened up and I have been there since!  I am also the special education teacher.  My husband and I have been blessed with 5 children. I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my family. I find it a privilege to be a teacher. Spending time with children and helping them to grow in God's love is the best job ever. We would love to have you come visit our preschool classes and see what we are all about!

Mrs. Brooke Henningfeld
Preschool Assistant Teacher

I am excited to be joining the DCS team this year as the three and four-year-old pre-school aide alongside Sue Olson! My husband, Rick, and I have ten children. We have four biological boys, twin boys adopted from Ethiopia, a son adopted from China, and three daughters adopted from China. Seven of our ten children attended pre-school at DCS with Sue, so I am very familiar with the program and am thrilled to be working alongside and with the wonderful DCS staff, students, and families! I received my Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and my Master Degree in Education with an emphasis in Professional Development from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. I taught Kindergarten for five years at Central-Denison Elementary School in Lake Geneva before becoming a stay-at-home mom with my children. I am passionate about adoption and helping waiting children find families. In 2013, I became an official part-time waiting child advocate with Madison Adoption Associates. I am looking forward to all the familiar faces at DCS and getting to know many new faces too!

Kindergarten Teacher

I attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, and earned my teaching degree in 1993. I moved, with my husband Tim, to the Delavan area and taught 3rd and 4th grade here at Delavan Christian School for 3 years. When I became pregnant with my first child, I chose to be a stay-at-home Mom. Our youngest daughter will be a Junior at DDHS this year, our middle daughter is currently a Senior in college, and our oldest daughter is working as an RN in Iowa. A few years ago, I decided to get back into the school setting and worked as a teacher aide and a substitute teacher. When the Kindergarten position came open at DCS, I eagerly applied. I am excited to be back in the role of teacher here at DCS and am really excited about starting my 10th year of teaching Kindergarten! In my free time, I enjoy cooking and baking, reading, and just being with family.

This is my 4th year at Delavan Christian School. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and later attended Stephen F. Austin State University to attain my teaching certification. I have classroom experience in 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades in both Texas and Wisconsin. I have lived in Elkhorn since 1998 with my husband, Alex and our 3 children, Connor (12th), Madeline (11th), and Graham (7th). This past summer I went to New York City! I attended Columbia University, and took a one week intensive reading class. It was so fabulous, I am going to try and go again next year. It was powerful to be surrounded by colleagues who love children and reading as much as I do. In my free time, I like to bake, scrapbook, make cards, vacation, and go on adventures with my kids. I am looking forward to a fabulous year!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Delavan Christian School! I am delighted to be back for my 20th year at DCS! I have an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, and I have a Master's Degree in Education from UW-Whitewater. In my free time, you'll find me running, hiking, baking, reading, kayaking, and traveling. Being outdoors enjoying God's beautiful creation is something I especially enjoy! This summer I had the opportunity to travel to Brazil on a mission trip through Compassion International. Instilling an awareness of global issues in my students is something I consider to be a priority. My husband and I have three grown children, and we live on a hobby farm in rural Delavan. It is a gift to be able to integrate my Christian faith with my teaching. It is a true blessing to be entrusted with your children, and I covet your prayers as we start an exciting new year of learning!

My family and I just moved to the area from Pennsylvania. Our daughters Jocelyn (10th grade) and Genevieve (6th grade) keep us busy watching them in equestrian sports, cross country and soccer. We look forward to the fall when we hope to better enjoy the Lake Geneva area we call home. My husband and I grew up in Michigan. We met at the University of Michigan where we both received our bachelor degrees. Our graduate degrees are from Penn State. I have over ten years of experience in teaching and have worked in a variety of schools - Christian and public. God’s Word is dear to me and it is an honor to be able to model Bible Study skills with 5th and 6th graders at DCS. I am blessed to be teaching so many of my favorite things this year – Bible, Spanish, science and music. I will get know kindergarten through 4th through computer, music and introduction to Spanish. I am joining the middle school team through Spanish, Science, Bible and Music. I look forward to meeting and working with the DCS family.

For the past 8 years I have worked alongside my husband, Mark, at Camp Timber-lee in East Troy, WI. My husband and I live in Delavan. Our 3 grown children all graduated from DCS and are now in other parts of the country and the world, all teachers! I love spending time with my family and friends as much as I can, and I love being in the great outdoors. I am happy that God has led me back to DCS.

Middle School History / Math / Phys Ed, Tech Coordinator, Athletic Director

I have been teaching at DCS since 2004. I have been blessed to be able to teach subjects that are interesting to myself. I love the challenges of teaching mathematics to students in the fifth-eighth grade range. A common question that I hear from students is "When will I ever use this?" Sometimes I have a concrete answer to that question but not always. I have learned that God has given us the ability to understand difficult concepts. Not every adult uses square roots every day in their life, but the Lord has given us the ability to comprehend square roots, so we owe it to Him to learn these concepts. At DCS the math series can be challenging, but it prepares our children for high school and it gets the kids thinking deeper.  Recently I have become the 7th and 8th grade homeroom teacher, which has added new areas of study. Each subject area is fascinating to me and allows me to see the different strengths of our Middle School students. My favorite part of teaching at DCS is the interaction with the students. There is so much growth seen in the students from entering into fifth grade to eighth grade graduation. The most rewarding growth I get to witness is the love and commitment to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Art Teacher

After being a teacher's aide for 3 years, the administrator asked if I would be interested in teaching art to the 5th-8th grades. My son was in 8th grade at the time, so it was fun for me to teach him and his classmates. A few years later 3rd & 4th was added. That was 17 years ago! DCS students work on a variety of art projects. 5th-8th grades are also taught drawing skills. I love to see what they are capable of and how they improve over time with their God-given talents and hard work. They are encouraged to be creative, do their personal best and have fun. They also learn to appreciate art and the beauty of God's creation. I'm married, have 3 children & 2 grandchildren. I spent time at Dordt taking art classes. More recently, watercolor & pottery classes (locally). I have also worked as a nurse's aide for 5 1/2 years, babysat for 13 years to stay home with my children, and continue to worked Aurora as a receptionist, where I have been employed for the past 22 years. I enjoy hiking, swimming, art, crosswords, family time, and visiting my daughter & grandchildren in Canada. This summer I also had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Brazil with Compassion International. Time spent with the child my husband and I sponsor was priceless!
